Closing the circle of thermoformed PET containers

A vision of the new plastic economy for Europe.
"A smart, innovative and sustainable plastics industry, where design and production fully respects the needs of reuse, repair, and recycling, brings growth and jobs to Europe and helps cut EU's greenhouse gas emissions and dependence on imported fossil fuels."
Communication from the Commission to the European Parliament, Strasbourg, January 2018.

The European Plastics Strategy in a circular economy.
Europe has challenged itself to transform the linear model of production and consumption towards a circular model. The legislative framework of the European Strategy for Plastics in a Circular Economy establishes that: “100% of plastic packaging must be recyclable in a profitable manner by 2030 and 10 million tons of recycled plastic will be converted into new products in the market of the EU in 2025".
3
Direct circular economy model
PET is currently the only polymer that responds to a direct circular economy model as it has sufficient health and safety guarantees to accredit its reuse in applications in contact with food. The circularity of PET enables high-quality recycling or upcycling, in accordance with the commitment of the European Plastics Strategy.

Facing the European challenges.
The entire value chain must collaborate, along with strengthening the recycling industry, to increase the installed industrial capacity, both in Spain and in the rest of Europe, to meet the potential demand of more than 10 million tons per year throughout Europe. At Sulayr we are working on increasing our production capacity to reach the goal of 100,000 tons per year in 2023.
